When things go wrong
A familiar story....
Mary logs on to check her overnight sales...she gets an error message.
She hesitates...should she call her ISP, her hosting company, her
website designer, her PC support service or the shop that sold her
the computer? If she gets it wrong, she'll be wasting time waiting
for the right person to give her the answer. Using our unique service,
Mary would have just one call to make. Our 7 day support makes sure

Introduction to Domain Names
A domain name is a "web address" or "URL".
The suffix of the web address, the ".com" is called the
Domain Designation. There are other domain designations such as
.org, .edu, .net, and .biz, to name a few. New suffixes are being
released every year. Each domain designation is released with a
unique purpose in mind.
A summary of the most popular:
.asn - associations
.com - commercial entities
.id - individuals
.org - organisations
.edu - educational bodies
.gov - government bodies
.biz - businesses
All these names are TLD's (Top Level Domains). A second level of
domain names (2LD's) include a second suffix to designate the country.
In Australia, the suffix ".com.au" is used. auDA (au Domain
Adminitration Ltd) is the government endorsed, non-profit, and independant
manager of the Australian domain name space. The auDA set the policies
for domain name registration in Australia. It also facilitates the
domain name dispute resolution policy.
TLD's are considered to be useful for an international identity
that is not necessarily associated with a particular country, however,
traditionally a .com domain name is identified as a U.S.A. entity.
It is important to own a .com.au domain name for your online business.
The .com.au is the presumed the standard domain of reputable commercial
entities in Australia and most remembered by users of the internet.
Even so, you should consider buying other domain designations like
.net.au, .com and .biz versions of your web address to prevent others
from attempting to profit from your good name. They don't have to
be used. It's protection for your business identity.
Choosing a Domain Name
For some businesses online, the domain name is almost as valuable
as the business itself. The auDA guidelines help to regulate abuse
of Australian domain name registrations. The problem is that, even
though domain name guidelines ensure the integrity of domain name
registration, there is no absolute or automatic right to a domain
name which are licenced on a first come, first served basis.
So, are there any good domain names left? The good news is that,
if your business name is already registered by another business,
you can choose instead, a name that identifies you in another way.
For example, if www.bobsplumbing.com.au is taken, you could use
www.plumbingservices.com.au.
Naming Tips
It's crucial to choose a domain name that's easy to remember. Keep
it as short as possible. A domain name can be up to 32 characters
long but ask yourself, is it going to fit in a small classified
ad? Is it easy to read on a business card? To keep it short, try
to abbreviate or truncate. If the domain name is hard to remember,
any opportunity for advertising will be lost.
Also consider:
- Avoid words that can be misspelled.
- Choose phrases that look right when typed
as one word.
- Don't use characters or numbers to represent
words such as "8" for "ate" or "4"
for "for" or "2" for "to".
- Avoid hyphens.
Pricing
.com.au, .net.au $45.00 + GST per year
.org.au $26.00 + GST per year
.com, .net, .info, .biz $30.00 + GST per year
