The oldest registry of the name vanderMost was dated in Schiedam in 1696 as "Jan Gijse vanderMost" - a great grandchild of Gijsbrecht. Jan’s brother, Arij Gijse, did not use the name vanderMost in 1690 when he married, but later his children did. Read about the first generations using the vanderMost name.

The Name vanderMost
The name "Most" came from the word for unfermented grape juice (derived from wine preparation). A family in Zeeland (1697), used the juice from the Most family as an ingredient in the preparation of mustard. The "van der" was added to the name to signify that the grape juice came from the Most family. And so, the name became vanderMost.
