Branch
The Senior branch begins from Arij I (1663), the oldest
of two brothers from where the vanderMost name continues on
from the late 1600's to the present day.
Arij - Senior Branch
The beginning of the Senior branch of the vanderMost's is
Arij I, son of Gijsbrecht Everts (Junior) born in 1663. He
married Arentje Arens Swarenbos at 21 years of age. She was
the daughter of Arije Hendriksz Swarnbos and Dieuwertje Tobias.
She was also the half sister of his brother Jan's wife.
Arij and Arentje had 10 children although most died at a
very young age. Only two sons survived to adulthood - Gijsbrecht
and Arij II.
Arij Senior died in 1705. His son Gijsbrecht died at age
28 in 1719 without any surviving sons. Arij II therefore was
the only son in this branch to carry on the vanderMost name.
Arij's Children
Arij II - married Grietje Heerman, daughter of Leendert Crijne
Heereman and Trinjtje Balte. They had seven children. Three
of his sons, Arij III, Krijn and Tobias carried on the vanderMost
name. His sons Leendert and Gijsbrecht produced only daughters.
Arij II was most likely a seaman. He died somewhere between
1748 and 1753. The exact year of his death is unknown.
The Next Generations
Arij III - married Jacoba Heijnoort in 1753, daughter of Jan
Heijnoort and Adriana ?. He was a Sea Captain. He had 5 children.
Arentje, Jan, Ariaantje, Arij and Elisa.
Jan, a porter, married Aaltje van Onselen in 1784. Out of
their 8 children, three sons died young. Only their daughter,
Arendje had a son, Jan but he also died at a very young age.
Arij IV married twice. In 1785 he met Margaretha Buntje,
daughter of Evert Buntje and Maartje vanderVaart and in 1796
he met Adriana de Graaf, daughter of Abraham de Graaf and
Klasijntje Bakkers.
Only Arij III's two children, daughter, Adriaantje and son,
Arij IV carried on the vanderMost name in this branch. The
Adriaantje line became vanderMost van Spijk and is named from
here on as the "vanderMost van Spijk Line". The
Arij IV line is named from here on as the "Arij Line".
